Camilla Mazetto, PhD

I am a psychologist and neuropsychologist with a specialty in working with children and adolescents who present a wide range of developmental disorders, learning difficulties and trouble in social interaction. I have extensive academic, clinical and research training, with a Doctorate in Brazil and a Post-doctorate in France. I use evidence-based scientific approaches from an integrative, comprehensive, and neurodevelopmental perspective. I have experience working with families, schools and other professionals, designing the interventions and supports needed to help children feel confident and fulfilled. I maintain clinical and research partnerships in Brazil, France, and the United States, where I currently live.

Modalities of intervention in Developmental Psychology
» The Exchange and Development Therapy (EDT)

The EDT was created to address the needs of young children with communication and social interaction disorders, such as autism. It is a French neurodevelopmental approach whose positive effects are being confirmed by scientific clinical and neuroimaging international studies.

In this early intervention approach the central focus is on communication and interaction between therapist and patient, but it also touches the development of other neuropsychological functions (such as visual and auditory attention, perception and cognition), which help the child develop the ability to communicate, interact with others, be attentive, imitate and adapt to the environment.

EDT follows state-of-the-art principles for the treatment of autism. It involves direct intervention with the child ass well as parenting training, favoring natural development and focusing on early intervention.

Outlined as a group intervention, the Ramain Method aims the integration of neuropsychological functioning and the overall development of the person. It takes place through structured sessions following a program of different exercises specially adapted to each stage of development. Activities involve attention, perception, reasoning and executive functions, action, emotion, and social interaction. Some situations occur with unique materials handled by the patient, while others involve activities related to daily life and creativity. All exercises are integrative and help to harmonize brain functioning, allowing a better expression of a person’s potential. The Ramain Method embodies cutting-edge principles in Neuroscience and is suitable for children, adolescents, and adults with emotional, learning and developmental disorders.

Psychological and Neuropsychologial Evaluation

I have specialized in comprehensive assessments for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other global developmental delays, including very young children. These evaluations follow the international gold standard concerning scales and instruments used. Some of the instruments for which I have received international certification include the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-Second Edition), and in France, the Socio-Emotional and Cognitive Evaluation Battery (SCEB). The SCEB is being validated for use in Brazil as part of my postdoctoral study, in collaboration with its author.

In children and adolescents, classical neuropsychological assessment is useful for investigating cognitive impairments that may affect a person's learning and/or behavior. It is done through tests that try to analyze perception, visuospatial skills, attention, memory, language, logical reasoning, organization, abstraction, planning. It supports medical diagnosis, school guidance, and psychological interventions.

In the case of young children, a psychological and neurodevelopmental assessment is based on the child's direct observation as well as on interviews with the parents, who inform about their concerns, but also describe the child's abilities, learning, and adaptive skills, considering what is expected for the age. When there is a suspicion of developmental delay, early evaluation allows monitoring the child's evolution over time and guiding parents to seek the most appropriate stimulation, identifying strengths and weaknesses of motor, cognitive and socio-emotional development.

Supervision and Workshops

I am internationally certified to train and supervise professionals in the Exchange and Development Therapy (EDT). The training follows the international requirements for EDT therapists and includes theoretical classes, practicum, and clinical supervisions.

I am also certified to train professionals in the Socio-Emotional and Cognitive Evaluation Battery (SCEB), and I currently conduct its validation study in Brazil.

Supervision and workshops can take place either in person or through digital media, with the visualization of videotaped sessions (accompanied by consent), study groups and discussion of the therapeutic objectives and curriculum for each case.

Camilla T. M. Mazetto is a clinical psychologist, neuropsychologist, and researcher, with a Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo (USP), where she also obtained her Master's and her Bachelor’s degree. Her dissertation was nominated for two academic awards (USP Dissertation Highlight and Dissertation Award from the Coordination For The Improvement Of Higher Education Personnel - Foundation CAPES).

Dr. Mazetto works with children and adolescents who present neurodevelopmental disorders, emotional difficulties and social-communication delays using internationally recognized evidence-based methodologies, whose developmental and humanistic nature allow a comprehensive and integrative intervention.

She specialized in the early detection, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Dr. Mazetto is certified by the University François Rabelais (Tours-France) and by Prof. Cathérine Barthélémy (author) as a therapist and trainer to the Exchange and Development Therapy (EDT). The Sorbonne Paris Cité University also certifies her an expert and trainer to the Socio-Emotional and Cognitive Evaluation Battery (SCEB).

She coordinated the clinical activities of the Psychology Department at the Center for Autism (São Paulo-Brazil), a non-profit organization where she worked for more than ten years, performing psychological evaluations and consultations, parent guidance and staff training.

Since her bachelor ’s, Dr. Mazetto has worked at CARI-Psicologia e Educação in São Paulo, where she also specialized in the Ramain and Dia-Log Methodologies. She is still part of the Clinical and Research Activities Coordination Team, training and supervising other professionals, using digital media.

In her current postdoctoral research, she collaborates with USP and Sorbonne Paris Cité University, studying the early detection of developmental disorders and conducting research for the Brazilian validation of the SCEB scale.

Dr. Mazetto currently resides in New York, where she is in the process of obtaining her license and maintains her clinical and academic activities in Brazil and France.
